Omar Morales Gómez, CFA
Mr. Morales possesses an extensive 15-year trajectory in the investment management sector. As the appointed Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of the Tec de Monterrey Endowment since 2023, he has oversight of the financial assets of Tec de Monterrey, the biggest private university in Mexico. In this role, Mr. Morales and his team manage the portfolio across multiple asset classes with the objective of achieving desired outcomes that help achieve the university's strategic objectives under an institutional investor framework.
Prior to this, Mr. Morales served as the CIO of Principal Asset Management in Mexico. During this tenure, he managed significant assets on behalf of sovereign wealth funds, domestic institutional investors, and individual retail portfolios. Under his mandate he was running both active and passive investment strategies for mutual funds and mandates, the portfolios under his direction obtained the Morningstar Award in consecutive years for the best mutual funds in Mexico in multi-asset and local equity categories, surpassing industry benchmarks and comparable peer group performance.
Before joining Principal Financial Group in 2015, Mr. Morales held the role of Senior Equity Portfolio Manager at AFORE XXI-Banorte from February 2013, where he had fiduciary oversight of approximately USD 15 Billion. Earlier still, he contributed five years at Afore Bancomer, with responsibilities spanning a diverse range of equity products and segregated accounts, each with their unique benchmarks and investment policies. Mr. Morales further solidified his portfolio management acumen at BBVA Asset Management, where he specialized in constructing bespoke portfolios for a diverse clientele, from high-net-worth individuals to governmental agencies and private enterprises.
In addition to his professional commitments, Mr. Morales remains an active voice in the local financial community, frequently contributing to conferences and forums. He attained a BA in Financial Management from ITESM and is CFA Charterholder designation.
